My majors are IA and French. The relevant courses I have taken are BUAD 105 (I have forgotten its ridiculously long name), Econ 201 Macroeconomics, Econ Microeconomics, and Econ 384 Economic Development. I especially liked Economic Development because I am interested in the economic development of the third world, especially microfinancing. I am troubled by how hard it is for destitute entrepreneurs to get credit, as well as by how little the governments of developed world are investing in those who need the most help and have the most potential. I feel it is in the interest of the developed world to improve the economies of the underdeveloped world because then there would be a bigger market for its exports.
Anyway, I feel I would be an asset because I would add enthousiasm for economics to the group. Though my math skills are deplorable and graphs and formulas intimidate me, I feel that economics is connected to all global issues (social, political, environmental etc.) and can help explain them and how to change them. It’s true that “history is economics in action.”
End Transmission =)
